Here is one of the most ambitious projects I have worked on to date - a (too?) comprehensive adverts site. I had been contacted by an independent designer who had created the concept for this project whose goal was to compete with existing adverts sites.
The idea of the site was to take the ideas put in place by the competition while offering advanced features. Thus the logged-in user could, for example, write reviews about other users.
In addition to this the site manager had an advanced administration interface to manage all of the site's entities.
If this site did not work, it is - in my opinion - because the competition was too strong: having claimed to be able to dethrone a site such as Anibis just wasn't realistic.
